With the end of diesel production at the former Electro-Motive Division plant in La Grange, Ill., owner Progress Rail is auctioning off the contents of the 1 million sq. ft. facility, including many specialized production machine tools. The four-day auction was held online starting on May 18. General Motors sold off EMD in 2005 to Grennbrier Equity Group and Berkshire Partners, renaming the company Electro-Motive Diesel. Caterpillar acquired EMD in 2010, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Progress Rail. The announcement of the closure of La Grange first came in 2018.
